Initiated together with Martijn Hendriks. Made possible with the efforts of collaborating artists and (our) community/ies. Marwan operates autonomously under the generous wings of gallery AKINCI.
Imagining Marwan as a cutlery drawer, Martijn Hendriks’ sculpture 'Spoon' (2016), previously exhibited in a rented Volvo V80 parked for a week in a shopping mall parking lot, was the first piece to inhabit it.
Since September 2020 ‘Spoon’ became accompanied (irregularly) by a growing multitude of pieces (of cutlery) by a variety of artists. All artworks were made specifically for She cut that as the spoons know (egg) / Guards can maybe be clumps, fork so ready, Hase / Cordon to eaten shark / dream peels ready / Who cut lead into teeth, always causing the status quo in Marwan to shift, or, the install to change frequently.
s l o w c o m e b a c k*, a -not per se linear- sequence of works behind Marwan’s closed door, presented through its windows, unfolded over time.
Concentrating -different from Marwan’s ‘usual’ mode of conduct- on works that (to show) involve limited production, transportation, and means and (to view) can be experienced anytime, from outside;
s l o w c o m e b a c k aims to highlight proposals and analyses from various generations of artists on how to make art and live, together.
