Jason’s first chapter (Untitled, drafts, 2022) slipped, spilled, split in and through the space; the second (installation of Tracks, 2022) cropped and covered, moving between straight lines and liquid spills.
Silver lining space as a red thread that flakes, slicks, and slips. Leaving and becoming stains. A third place folded in, dithering between the glint of a shadow and a mis-registered wallpaper.
To drape (1); to gather (2); to fold (3).
On the wall, a print slurs in four beats, each screen a stretched note. To me, a short tune forms as the lines first break and then slide vertically through the next panel. A single bar refrain.
time. drags. through. breaks.
I see the image as voice, silently sliding back and forth as it travels downwards, slipping like slurry, and yet holding on to the echo of its rigid frame. Like the straight edge of teeth impressed into the curve of one’s tongue. Nearby, a photograph similarly contains a body of water.
This is Jason’s third chapter in a series of installations exploring in-between moments in a programme that is undulating between going and slowing: becoming whole through pause.
